Imagine you are locked in the studio with a small group of heroes. Breaking the windows or doors from either side is not an option. You will have to survive inside the studio. What 5 items that we have here today would be most important for your team’s survival?

  • “Water is most important because you can survive a long time without food but not very long without water.”
  • “A Chromebook because you will need to contact the outside world and let them know you need help.”
  • “Being entertained is more important than being comfortable. I would want a book because being bored would make you crazy.”
  • “I disagree, being comfortable is more important than being entertained. I need to be comfortable when I sleep!”

Process Drama

The heroes took advantage of their afternoons this week to practice their Process Drama skits. On Tuesday, they came together without being called to the rug and sat quietly while each group acted out their skits. They then gave each group warm and cool feedback. At Heroes Academy we believe building a supportive, learner-driven community leads to growth and transformation.

Boxes of costumes and props provided by Carrie were delivered to the studio on Thursday. The heroes spent the afternoon choosing costumes and practicing their plays with the new items.

Reflection

To prepare for the last exhibition of the year, the heroes spent this week working on reflection projects. Each hero chose an item they felt best represents their year at Heroes Academy and answered these questions:

  • What object did you choose, why do you feel this best represents your year at Heroes Academy?
  • What do you feel is the greatest lesson you have learned this year?
  • What is the biggest lesson you feel you still need to learn?

Messages of friendship, perseverance and growth were heard as the heroes shared what they wanted their family and friends to know about their year.

Another Chapter

After completing their last exhibition of the year heroes and parents came together to celebrate a year of hard work and transformation with a pool party.

The heroes enjoyed spending this time together, looking forward to a well-earned break and saying goodbye to friends who are moving to the next part of their journey.

As this chapter at Heroes Academy comes to an end, one can’t help but reflect on the challenges, failures and transformations of the past year; with each hero embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Let’s look forward to the next chapter and consider the amazing journey to come as these heroes change the world.
