(Year 3, Week 19)

Sincerity

The heroes were welcomed back to the studio with a new layout and new challenges. The character trait presented for the session was sincerity. The heroes had a discussion on what it means to be sincere and how they can be proactive about showing sincerity to themselves and their fellow heroes. On Tuesday, it was the first time that all heroes opted in to participating with the morning stillness. During morning stillness the heroes took some time to write down their goals during the five minutes of silence and reflection.

Positive energy sailed through the studio. At the end of the day they reflected on moments where they were honest and sincere while on their journey. Some of the heroes mentioned that there was a lot of work they wanted to do in terms of being true to themselves and their fellow heroes. One of the heroes ended the day by saying,

“It feels magical with how honest we all were to each other today.”

Passion Projects

The heroes loved the introduction to Passion Projects last session, so much so that the Heroes Academy News opened up their second business! Not only are they working on their bi-monthly paper, but they decided to open up a bakery.

Bakery
Open for Business

They interviewed, hired bakers and created a marketing team. They were up and running by Wednesday and even brought in their first baked goods. They kicked off their grand opening with an awesome deal. For every dollar, the customers would get three cookies in return. The heroes quickly sold out and had to close their bakery before lunch. They were overwhelmed and excited that their second business was successful and loved by their fellow heroes. Their bakery will be open for business the rest of the session and the heroes will be showcasing their business at exhibition.

Quest and Writer’s Workshop

This session the heroes were challenged with a creepy crawly quest. They are now known as the Entomologist Heroes! The quest was introduced and they dove into the world of taxonomy and the world of insects. They started working in their squads to identify insects, build insect worlds and work their way through different design ideas for their future insect farms. Next week the heroes will be welcoming in caterpillars and ants. They will get to watch the caterpillars go through metamorphosis and watch the ants build their colonies.

There was a lot of buzz when it came to Writer’s Workshop. On day one, the heroes were presented with the game, Scattergories. They spent time challenging one another and taking turns to move into leadership roles. They then were presented with the Writer’s Workshop theme, Science Fiction. They quickly developed their game of Scattergories into using ideas from science. After they were done competing, they ran off to grab their computers and get to work. Their challenge this session is to write a Science Fiction story that incorporates ten scientific facts. The heroes had already jumped into research and many of them uncovered facts about the galaxy, ocean and ecosystems that they had never known before.

Intentional Moments

On Friday, the heroes were still working through their first challenges with quest. The challenge presented was intense and required a great deal of focus. They pushed through for two days, hoping to acquire the knowledge they needed so in the future they can start creating their own science experiments and even, their own insects. Even with all of the hard work, they were also presented with the opportunity to participate in logic games. The studio broke apart into different groups and got busy. Some of the heroes were so focused on their quest projects that they didn’t even look up to see what types of games were brought out through the studio. Other heroes had finished their challenges and were quickly competing with different logic games. Some of the heroes favorites were Incan Gold, Gravity Maze and Ticket to Ride.

It’s a powerful moment to watch the heroes develop logical thought skills and focus techniques through board games and healthy competition. It’s also powerful to watch the heroes choose to power through difficult problems that they encountered with quest. The heroes learned multiple lessons in resilience and strength in the studio.

Wrap-Up

The first week was short, intentional and full of positive energy to kick off this new session. Within just four days, the heroes had decided on their passion projects and ideas for displaying exhibition. There was even talk of a possible excursion or day trip to a local bee farm. With all of the new challenges introduced, the heroes took it all in stride. They even got to welcome three new heroes into their tight knit circle and spent the days showing them the ropes and welcoming them in true hero fashion.
